SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Gold Medal gymnast Aly Raisman was in Central New York for the annual Salvation Army Civic Celebration.

The event aims to honor people who make significant contributions to the community.

Raisman was the guest speaker for the luncheon.

Senior Vice President and Regional Manager at Nexstar Broadcasting group Theresa Underwood was awarded at the luncheon.

Nexstar Broadcasting owns NewsChannel 9 and WWTI-ABC50.

Underwood says the Salvation Army’s mission is extremely important in getting people through their lowest moments in life.

“There’s more than 40,000 people in our community that don’t have the help they need to get through those times, and that’s when the Army steps in to provide help, hope, and empower people to make significant change in their life and perhaps provide resources at someone’s darkest hour,” Underwood said.
