An oral surgeon who worked for New York at several local prisons has been sentenced to prison himself for stealing more than $14,000 from the state. New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Dr. Timothy O’Keefe was sentenced to six months behind bars as well as ordered to pay restitution for billing New York State for work that he did not do. O’Keefe worked for the state in providing dental care at 26 prisons, including Watertown, Gouverneur, Cape Vincent, and Ogdensburg. An investigation ultimately determined that O’Keefe billed the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Service for work he did not perform. He pleaded guilty to a charge of second degree offering a false instrument for filing.
