A helmet may have prevented more serious injuries for a 12-year-old boy who was hit by a car Monday morning in Potsdam.

The boy was riding his bicycle on Lawrence Avenue when police say he was struck by 86-year-old Robert Stark.

Officers say the boy was wearing his helmet at the time of the accident, but he was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment on his ankle and a scan of a head injury.

Stark was given a ticket for not yielding the right of way to a pedestrian.
