Schumer announces legislation to help schools test water for lead

Local News

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is announcing new legislation that will help school districts across the state test their drinking water for potential lead contamination.

Most recently, elevated levels of lead were found in water sources in the Ithaca school system downstate.

The proposal would establish a new federal program which would provide grants to schools to test their water for lead contamination.

Many districts claim to be too financially strapped to be able to pay for testing on their own.
