Despite finishing third in the primary which eliminated him from the race, supporters of Watertown City Councilman Steve Jennings’ bid for mayor are not giving up.
A movement to write in Jennings name on the November 3 ballot has begun, spearheaded by local resident Scott “SG” Gates. Gates has been the face behind the decade long movement to get a dog park established in the city. While the city has designated Factory Square Park as the site for such a park, Gates is against the location on the grounds of environmental concerns. Among the three candidates, Jennings was the only one to push for moving the park to Thompson Park.
During the September primary, Jennings finished third behind Mayor Jeff Graham and City Councilman Joe Butler Jr.
It should be noted that Jennings himself is not behind the write in campaign for him, nor is he participating in it.
