Suspect in murder of Houston cardiologist kills himself as authorities close in, police say

The Houston man suspected in the murder of the doctor of former President George H.W. Bush took his own life Friday when authorities confronted him, police said.

Joseph James Pappas, 62, shot himself in the head as officers from the Houston Police Department closed in after receiving a tip on his location.

The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
