SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A 5-year-old Syracuse girl who was kidnapped back in 2004 appeared on Dr. Phil to share the story of her kidnapping 15 years later.

Brittany Fish was kidnapped just outside her home on April 24, 2004.

She was missing for about 24 hours, and several law enforcement agencies were out scouring the area.

Brittany remembers the night of her kidnapping like this: “He put his arms around my mouth and he told me to get into the back of the car as he shoved me to the floorboards…I didn’t see any weapon at that point, it was later that I saw a weapon. As I was whimpering and crying, trying to save my life is when he pulled out a gun, put it to my temple and said ‘stop crying or I will shoot you.'”

Her kidnapper, Kevin Schaus, abused her and left her bound and gagged behind an abandoned warehouse in DeWitt.

It took law enforcement a year to arrest Schaus.

Schaus is serving a sentence of 20 years to life for kidnapping Brittany and two other young girls from the Central New York area.
