Teen admits to stabbing Watertown man to death

A teenager who was involved in the stabbing death of a Watertown man back in 2015 has pleaded guilty.

According to court documents, 19-year-old Freddie “Devon” Southerland pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree assault.

In taking the deal, Southerland admits to stabbing 23-year-old Nichalas VanZelf during a robbery of VanZelf’s Winslow Street residence.

Southerland was arrested along with 19-yearold DeVonte Bumpars of New York City and 18-year-old Amanda Camardo of Cape Vincent.

Both Bumpars and Camardo are due back in court at later dates.

Southerland is now scheduled to be sentenced in April.
