THE FAIRGROUNDS YMCA IS GETTING NEW TURF!!
New next generation turf surface is being installed to provide the highest quality playing surface for community athletes.
July 25, 2018- The Watertown Family YMCA is excited to provide new next generation turf for our members and athletic teams. This investment of over $180,000 in turf for both Fairground YMCA indoor fields and the YMCA Daycare is an investment in caring for our community with the best programs and facilities.
Current turf at the Fairgrounds YMCA, installed in 2012, has provided a great surface for indoor soccer and other activities, but has reached its end-of-useful-life and it is time to bring in the next generation of turf. The new turf is truly state-of-the-art; it will be easier to maintain and provides a more durable playing surface mimicking a realistic grass surface.
“The YMCA cares deeply about each child and adult who uses our facilities and we are pleased to invest in a new turf surface that will reduce skin friction and abrasion and provide stability and cushion to absorb impact, just as natural grass would,” stated YMCA CEO, Denise Young. Beth Harris, YMCA Childcare Center Director noted “We are excited to provide our Y daycare children the opportunity to play in a natural feeling environment”.
XGrass®, the industry leaders in synthetic turf, will be installing the new product starting August 14th and is scheduled to have both fields at the Fairgrounds location and the Daycare play area completed within two weeks. The fields will be closed during the installation process and will be complete just in time for the start of the Fall soccer session.
The new turf will serve thousands of North Country children and over 250 adult soccer players in a single year. “We host 180 games in our fall and springs sessions and 1,450 during our two winter sessions, that’s over 5,740 pairs of feet on the field each year, for soccer alone” said Ammbrose Souza, Senior Director of Sports at the Fairgrounds YMCA.
The WATERTOWN FAMILY YMCA is committed to providing high quality programs that nurture the potential of every child and every person to encourage them to reach their full potential.
