Trial date set for Lewis County woman accused in the drug overdose death of a Carthage High School student

A trial date of August 10 has been set for a Lewis County woman accused in the drug overdose death of a Carthage High School student. Forty eight year old Brenda Roth was arraigned Friday on charges of second degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty and remains in the Lewis County Jail on $20,000 cash bail. Roth is accused of providing over the counter and prescription medication to 15 year old Derek Holton and several other teens back in late December at her home. Holton later died and Roth is accused of not providing life saving measures for the teen.  Holton was a freshman at Carthage.
