The American Red Cross says it has come to the aid of 10 people following two separate fires in St. Lawrence County this week.
A blaze Tuesday night inside a Gouverneur home left a family of five, including children ages 1, 2 and 3, all homeless. The organization says two adults are also recovering after an early Wednesday fire inside their Chase Mills residence.
The Red Cross has helped find temporary housing, as well as provide finanical assistance to the displaced residents. Further, according to the organization, there were twice as many fires for the final week of December in eastern and upstate New York than compared to 2016–triple the amount for that time period in 2015.
