Some improving signs in the job market as less people are on unemployment then a year ago, particularly in Jefferson County. The numbers for the month of June were released by the New York State Labor Department on Tuesday. Last month, Jefferson County recorded an unemployment rate of 5.9%. That’s down nearly one percent from the 6.8% recorded in June 2014. Lewis County’s rate was and even 6%, down from 6.6%. St. Lawrence County’s unemployment for June was an even seven percent, down from 7.7% the year prior. Statewide, the average for the month of June was 5.3%.
