The trend when it comes to unemployment numbers in the region continued for the month of March. Lower than a year ago, but still higher when compared to the rest of the state. Last month, Jefferson County recorded a jobless rate of 8.1%. That’s down from nine and a half percent recorded in March 2014. The story was the same in Lewis County. It’s unemployment rate last month was 8.9%, down from 10.1% the same time last year. St. Lawrence had the lowest of the three counties with 7.5%. Down from 8.8% the same time in 2014. The numbers were also down from where they were in February. Statewide, the average was 5.8%.
