The Odyssey of the Mind competition will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
The public is invited to the annual event at Watertown High School and Case Middle School from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Sixty (60) teams comprised of 420 students from Kindergarten to twelth grade from area schools will compete in the regional event sponsored by the Jefferson-Lewis—Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES.
The competition includes a variety of problems from building mechanical devices to interpreting literary classics. Students learn life-long skills, such as cooperative teamwork, evaluating ideas, making decisions and creating solutions. Odyssey of the Mind offers students an opportunity to develop links among academic subjects such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, history, literature, creative writing, art, music and drama. It is a chance for teams of seven students to use their minds to solve long- term problems they have worked on for several months and five students to solve spontaneous problems where they are given a few minutes to solve the problem.
Finalists will participate in the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Competition scheduled for April 4,2017 on SUNY Binghamton Campus.
