Watertown Lawmakers vote to not renew contract of City Manager

Local News

Watertown City Council voted last week to not renew the contract of city manager Sharon Addison.

The move became public Monday night following a “Special Meeting,” which was called to finalize details and make the announcement. In polling the lawmakers, it was determined that the vote was 4-1 to not renew the contract of Addison, who has been in the role of city manager since 2012.

Mayor Joe Butler Jr. was the lone vote to give Addison another extension. That’s not surprising, given that both the mayor and the city manager have been at the forefront of the now three-year contract battle with the fire department.

The new-look council, with two members being sworn in earlier this month, decided to not renew Addison’s contract because notice had to be given prior to Feb. 1 in order to avoid paying any severance dues.
