A Watertown man has been arrested on accusations that he stole $27,000 from a local church.

City Police have charged 57 year old Stephen Hunt Sr. with third degree grand larceny.

It’s alleged that Hunt stole the funds from the deacon’s account of Emanuel Congregational Church in Watertown, an account that he managed.

The arrest followed an investigation that began after police received a complaint from the church of the missing funds.

Hunt turned himself into police on Friday.

He was arraigned in city court and released on his own recognizance.
