Watertown Police seeking information about fake hostage phone call

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Watertown Police are seeking to identify a caller who claimed he was holding his family hostage, but when officers arrived found nothing was wrong.

Dispatchers received the call around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The caller also claiming he had shot someone at his home on Haley Street, near Myrtle Avenue.

State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies, and other emergency personnel responded to the area, blocked off the road and attempted to make contact with the people inside the home.

After a short time, made officers made contact and learned no one was injured nor was anyone being held, hostage.

Watertown Police tell us the family is cooperating with the investigation.

The caller would likely face charges of falsely reporting an incident.
