A few days after the so-called “Landlord Law” went into effect in the city of Watertown, exactly zero landlords had signed on to the program.
Rental property owners now have until July to register their properties with the city under a law brought forward by former council member Stephen Jennings. As of Wednesday night, however, the Watertown Daily Times reports no one had actually filled out the proper paperwork.
An official told the Times that the city is avoiding any major push to get the word out on signing up until any potential software glitches are cleared. Meaning that the number of people registering should pick up once everything within the system is given the okay to move forward.
The city is using a state-funded program, employees will soon be able to access the software while out “in the field” looking over properties.
