Saturday was opening day for the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, but the question this morning is: How many more will it have?

Officials from the zoo in Watertown will meet again with City Council this evening.

The plan is to have the city pitch in funds, about $100,000 through the next couple of years, to help upgrade and renovate.

The zoo, which is in the red by about $130,000, needs that help from the city and likely from Jefferson County in order to stay functional.

Tonight’s meeting with council is set for 7 p.m. at City Hall.
