Gov. Andrew Cuomo is looking to shut down New York’s sex offenders’ access to the popular mobile game Pokemon GO.
In addition to ordering the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to restrict sex offenders under community supervision from playing the game, he has sent a letter to developer Niantic asking that the company help prohibit access.
The department of corrections has been directed to stop sex offenders from downloading, playing, or accessing the game.
It applies to nearly 3,000 Level 1, 2, and 3 sex offenders living on parole.
The Pokemon GO app erupted in popularity a few weeks ago, breaking an Apple record for having the most downloads in its first week.
Almost as quickly as it arrived, multiple dangers were linked to its use, ranging from robberies to car crashes.
