Onondaga County 911 tells NewsChannel 9 that firefighters cleared the scene of a massive brush fire in Kirkville at 12:42 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Manlius Police Department, three firefighters suffered what they described as minor injuries.
Approximately 100 acres burned during the fire, police say.
Smoke could be seen rising above the trees from a large brush fire that broke out off Saintsville Road near Kirkville Road near Titan Steel in Manlius around 7:00 p.m. Friday.
25 fire departments assisted at the scene, police say.
Water tankers were brought in from as many available units, and helicopters dropped water in an effort to put the fire out.
Getting water to the site had been an issue for crews.
Firefighters did have a hard time getting close due to thick smoke and heat of flames.
A few homes were near the fire, including homes with horses, but Manlius Police say no structures were damaged.
A neighbor on Ed Schepps Road told NewsChannel 9 that fire fighters did not officially tell people to evacuate, but they left since the smoke was so strong in their home.
Kirkville Road North is now back open.
It was closed for several hours to help trucks get to the scene. Police are still asking that people stay away from Saintsville Road, Ed Schepp’s Road and Minoa Road
Police believe the fire was accidental.
