Saturday Night Live knew that the only thing on TV most people cared about this weekend involved two men nearly beating each other to death for sport. That’s why the cold open cut right to the chase with a stream of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao‘s fight. Watch this and other highlights from the episode below!
Scarlett Johansson returned to host this week and the actress used her opening monologue to discuss joys of being a new mother, including singing her daughter to sleep. But as Johansson revealed, she doesn’t sing your typical lullaby. That is, unless your parents’ sang you to sleep with the help of backup dancers and writhing. Lots and lots of writhing.
In one of the best sketches of the night, SNL tackled Marvel’s Black Widow problem head-on with a spoof of what exactly a female-driven Marvel movie might look like. So if you’ve ever wanted to see Black Widow pursuing her fashion magazine dreams while dating a robot when really she should be eating ice cream with the Hulk, then Black Widow: Age of Me is the movie for you.
Kenan Thompson, Taran Killam and Johansson took on the empty Orioles game in Baltimore earlier this week in what has become a very polarizing sketch. As the announcers struggle to do their jobs with no attendees, they continue to accidentally exchange uncomfortable, foot-in-mouth wordplay about Baltimore’s riots.
Baltimore was also a big talking point during Weekend Update. While discussing the city’s riots, Michael Che pointed out, “No deaths were reported. Meaning, the riots were still far less dangerous than the backseat of a Baltimore police van.”
