New York (WETM) – With winter storms just around the corner officials are asking citizens to remain aware that it is the law to clean off your motor vehicle completely free of any remaining snow or ice before traveling in New York State.

Taking the extra time to clean off your vehichle may save you more money then you think.

The fines are usually set around $75, for the minor charges, or between $200 and$1,000 if such failure results in injuries or property damage. If the vehichle results in serious injury or property damage, the fines then jump to between $500 and $1,250.

The bill also provides exceptions to the application of the law when a vehicle is parked or for emergency vehicles at all times.
