Man dies after shootout with Troopers outside Binghamton

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – One man is dead after a shootout with a state trooper outside Binghamton Monday night.  

New York State Police say it happened in the Town of Kirkwood around 6:20 p.m. when a Trooper tried to pull over a vehicle, but the driver took off.

Investigators say that when the driver finally pulled over on the side of State Route 17 — the driver grabbed a gun and opened fire.  

NYSP say the Trooper shot back. The driver was killed and the Trooper was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  

Police say the driver has not been identified yet as they work to notify the family.
