Buffalo, NY (WIVB) – A kidnapped mother and her kids are safe tonight thanks to New York state police.

An Ohio man was arrested in Cheektowaga this week after police say he kidnapped a mother and her five kids.

On April 21st, State Police were told to be on the lookout for a white minivan with Ohio license plates.

State police came across a vehicle matching that description and plate number — they then pulled the vehicle over on the I-90 at the Cleveland Drive exit in Cheektowaga.

The driver, 27-year-old William Angel from Cleveland, was arrested and transported to State Police barracks in Buffalo.

The mother and her five children, ranging from 6-months-old to seven-years-old, were also transported to state police barracks.

Once in custody, an investigation revealed Angel was wanted by police in Cleveland for six counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Felony Assault, and five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Angel was processed and transported to the Erie County Holding Center to await extradition to Ohio.
The victims remained with state police officials until a relative traveled from Cleveland to bring them home.
