Sheriff’s deputy struck by vehicle after Sunday’s Bills game, driver charged with DWI

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 23-year-old Conesus man was charged with drinking and driving after the Erie County Sheriff’s Office say he struck a deputy with his vehicle Sunday evening after the Bills game in Orchard Park. 

Hayden Newcomb is charged with DWI and three vehicle and traffic law violations. 

According to sheriff’s reports, Newcomb made an illegal turn at the intersection of Southwestern Boulevard and Abbott Road around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, striking a deputy who was directing traffic. 

Newcomb was released to a sober third party with appearance tickets after being processed. 

The deputy was not injured and remained at his post on Sunday. 

Earlier in the same day, another sheriff’s deputy directing traffic at Route 219 and Big Tree Road was struck by a vehicle that didn’t stop. The deputy was taken to the hospital with a serious arm injury. 

Authorities are still looking for the vehicle.
