ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Wednesday afternoon Jeremy Wernick arrived at Albany Med to deliver 900 winter hats he collected for his annual Hatsgiving project.

The 15-year-old started it when he was 9 years old, after shaving his head for to raise money to fight childhood cancer and realizing how cold a bald head can get.

Hatsgiving gets bigger and bigger each year. The first year he collected hats at Forts Ferry Elementary School and donated 226 hats to Albany Med.

In addition to Albany Med, hats will be shipped to 18 hospitals and cancer centers in 16 states, including Montana and Colorado.
