Syracuse University running back George Morris will need surgery after sustaining an ankle injury in practice Saturday.

The SU athletics department says Morris will be evaluated during the rehabilitation process in the coming weeks.

Morris, a red-shirt senior, has rushed for 761 yards and one touchdown during his career with the Orange.

He played in 12 games last season, starting in three.

Morris rushed for 326 yards on 66 carries during the 2015 campaign.

The Orange opens its 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Carrier Dome when it hosts Colgate.
