Daboll knows tough test awaits in Baltimore

Bills preparing for tough Ravens defense

Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll knows his offense is going to be tested right out of the gate against the Ravens in Week 1.

“They’re smart and savvy back there. They do a good job of fooling guys, particularly quarterbacks,” he said.  “Baltimore Raven defenses have been historically good since 2000. They just keep replenishing guys to fill those roles. (Terrell)Suggs has been there forever. He’s a problem. They’re good.”
And, Daboll isn’t wrong. For 16 years Suggs has been a problem for offensive coordinators with his ability to wreck game plans on Sundays in the NFL.
The last time the Bills’ first team offensive line took the field, AJ McCarron was knocked around and suffered a shoulder injury and Josh Allen was sacked five times.
“Our focus is on getting ready to face Baltimore,” when asked about his level of concern and the OL. “We have a tough challenge ahead of us, not just the offensive line, but receivers and quarterback. The Ravens are known for defensive football.
“Offensive football is about all 11 guys doing their jobs. From the receivers getting off the line of scrimmage, to the quarterback reading the play properly, to running back making sure their blocks are good to the line making sure they do what they need to do — it takes everybody. It takes all 11 guys.”
Entering his second year in the league and first as a starter, Daboll said Peterman will have the ability to audible and adjust freely at the line of scrimmage.
“Well give him the plays, and if he sees something that he needs to get into, that’s the job of a quarterback,” Daboll said. “We don’t have crystal balls, and sometimes there will be a play that isn’t he best versus that particular look, and Nathan can do what he needs to do to put the offense in a good position.”
Even with Peterman at the helm, the one staple on offense will be LeSean McCoy shouldering then load.
On Wednesday, the running back referred to Daboll as a “genius” with what he brings to the field in terms of his Xs and Os and trying to find the best matchups for the team to succeed.
“I’m just a piece to the puzzle trying to do the best I can do, along with the help of a lot of people around here,” he said.
