McDermott doesn’t question his team’s effort after suffering 44-point loss

Buffalo Bills

After suffering the worst season opening lost in franchise history, Sean McDermott would not name a starting quarterback for week 2 against the Chargers at his press conference on Monday.

“We’re going to continue to evaluate where we are. Dotting the Is, crossing the Ts and taking it one step at a time,” said the Bills head coach.

While the quarterback play was an issue in Baltimore, McDermott says everyone needs to be better.

“Whether it’s the quarterback or my position. Our team in all three phases didn’t play well enough to win,” added McDermott.

Nathan Peterman had a quarterback rating of zero on Sunday, which was worse than his infamous five interception half last season. Still McDermott added, “I thought he made some good decisions and some decisions he would like to have back.”

The Bills head coach said he’s not overreacting after his team suffered the second worst loss in franchise history.

“I didn’t question the effort. I didn’t question the intensity. They were playing hard right to the very end.”

The Bills did make a move Monday, waiving defensive tackle Adolphus Washington and signing defensive end Nate Orchard

Orchard is a 2015 second round pick of the Browns best known as a pass rusher. He has five sacks and an interception in three seasons. He also became one of the stars from this season of Hard Knocks on HBO

Washington was the Bills’ 2016 third round pick. He made two tackles yesterday against the Ravens.

He was one of three draft picks remaining from the Doug Whaley era. Shaq Lawson and John Miller are now the only players drafted by the last Bills GM who are still on the team.

The Bills are confident they can be successful with the team they have.

“We’ll stay together. We won’t point the fingers but we will defiantly be critical to each other,” said running back LeSean McCoy after Sunday’s loss. “I mean it’s one game. We lost our first game. It happens. It’s not the end of the season but we have to be urgent in fixing things”
