The biggest Bills news on cutdown may not be about a player that was cut.

First round pick Shaq Lawson was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday. That means he cannot play until after week six at earliest.

It’s the first timeline placed on Lawson’s recovery time, even if it’s only a minimum limit. Lawson is rehabbing from shoulder surgery soon after he was drafted.

Marcus Easley was also placed on the PUP list.

Nine players were released including wide receiver Greg Little, veteran linebacker David Hawthorne and undrafted rookie linebacker Eric Striker.

Rex Ryan called cutdown day the “worst” and that label appears to apply especially to Striker.

“I love the way he plays, the passion he plays with,” Ryan said. “Obviously he does have some limitations with his size, speed. It doesn’t fit the NFL standard. But I love the guy’s heart. And he’s got a chance to play. It’s just unfortunate I think, you know, for him. We have some really good players in front of him. And some veteran players, and that’s not an easy thing.”

Striker kept the attitude that made him a fan favorite, just minutes before the Bills officially let him go.

“I love to play. I love the game. I would love to get another phone call obviously to come join… whoever the case may be,” Striker said. “I love coming out. I love my teammates, that smell of the grass. Everything about it, I love. So of course, I want to continue to play. But, in some instances, you gotta face facts and reality and move on with your life. I might be behind the camera like you guys, you never know.”

The Bills also added a player by sending a 2018 draft pick to Green Bay for linebacker Lerentee McCray. He made the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and played 24 games the last two season in Denver with 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

McCray left as a free agent for the Packers after 2015.

Reggie Ragland was officially placed on injured reserve for the season. Chris Gragg was waived/injured and could possibly come back to the team on injured reserve as well.
