SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Buffalo outplays Syracuse down the stretch handing the Orange its second straight non-conference loss inside the Dome.
For just the fourth time in Jim Boeheim’s tenure as head coach, Syracuse has suffered four regular season non-conference losses in a season. Buffalo outscored SU 18-6 in the final eight minutes to hand the Orange a 71-59 loss.
The unbeaten Bulls dominated on the glass. Buffalo finished with 18 offensive rebounds which led to 12 second-chance points. This marks the first time that ‘Cuse has lost back-to-back home games against non-conference opponents since 1975.
Syracuse shot 57% from the field in the first half and led by four at the break. Frank Howard scored 10 points for the Orange in the first half and finished with 13 in the game. Elijah Hughes led four SU players in double figures with 16 points.
Buffalo, ranked 14th in the AP poll, was paced by C.J. Massinburg’s 25 points. With the win, the Bulls improve to 11-0 on the season.
With the loss, Syracuse drops to 7-4. Next up for the Orange is a visit from Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon.
