NORTH CAROLINA (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse Orange lost 84-72 to Duke in the ACC quarterfinals Thursday night in North Carolina.

Tyus Battle was still unavailable for the Orange due to an apparent hip/back injury he suffered against Clemson in the team’s regular-season finale.

Frank Howard stepped up for the Orange and carried the scoring load. The senior scored a team-high 28 points to pace the Orange offense against a tough Blue Devils team.

The Blue Devils held a 34-28 lead into half. Both teams really turned on the offense in the second half — second half scoring was 50-44 in Duke’s favor.

On the other side of the court, Duke’s Zion Williamson made his return after missing five games due to a knee injury. He was nothing short of sensational scoring 29 points on 13-for-13 shooting from the field, he also pulled down 14 rebounds.

Duke will play North Carolina in the ACC semifinals Friday night at 9 p.m. on ESPN.

Syracuse seems to have secured a spot in the field of 68, but will await their seeding during Sunday’s selection show.
