BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Creativity and finding mis-matches are just some of the reasons the Bills hired Brian Daboll to be their offensive coordinator.
“He’s one of a kind,” quarterback AJ McCarron said.
And, that was the consensus among roughly a dozen players when asked about Daboll and his offensive creativity. It was like they were describing a ‘mad scientist.’
“Daboll can be walking back and two minutes after practice think about something and want to add it,” McCarron continued.
“Whenever coach McDermott goes up and talks about something, he’s taking notes,” rookie Josh Allen said. “Then we get out on the field and he’s like ‘this is a situation I haven’t seen in a very long time so we have to go over this and that.”
“He’s so creative. He has so much experience already around the league and around the game,” added Nathan Peterman.
“He’ll see something and then all of the sudden he has a play,” tight end Charles Clay echoed. “You see him working all the time.”
It’s not just the guys on offense that are impressed with the new playbook. Veterans on the Bills defense are also left shaking their heads.
“Man, I’ve seen every single scheme you could possibly see in practice,” Lorenzo Alexander said laughing.
“You see everything,” Micah Hyde added. “Personnel — he’s shown us everything in kind of that New England Patriots’ type of way. You see all the formations all the personnel just putting them out and getting the ball to play makers.”
Sean McDermott is all about competition. He and his defensive coaching staff enjoy the day to day matchups with Daboll’s offense.
“Competition levels are high here and that goes the same for our coaching staff,” he said.
